Acne Acne is a common skin condition that occurs when hair follicles become clogged with oil, dead skin cells, and bacteria. It typically manifests as pimples, blackheads, whiteheads, or inflamed red bumps on the face, chest, back, or other areas of the body. Causes: Hormonal Changes: Fluctuations in hormone levels, especially during puberty, can stimulate the sebaceous glands to produce excess oil, leading to acne. Excessive Oil Production: The overproduction of sebum (oil) by the sebaceous glands can contribute to clogged pores and acne development. Bacterial Infection: Propionibacterium acnes, a bacterium naturally present on the skin, can multiply and cause inflammation when trapped in clogged follicles. Clogged Pores: Dead skin cells and debris can accumulate in the hair follicles, blocking the flow of sebum and resulting in acne formation.
